Global ITMO is focused on identifying and developing projects that combine agricultural development, environmental technology transfer and measurable emissions reductions — with the potential for qualifying reductions to be authorised for international transfer under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
THE AGRICULTURAL OPPORTUNITY
Much of Ghanaian agriculture remains dependent on the wet season, meaning productive use of agricultural land can be concentrated into only a few months of the year.
Ghana also has significant water resources. The introduction of solar-powered irrigation has the potential to extend growing seasons, increase land utilisation and enable farmers to produce a wider range and greater volume of crops.
Our work is exploring both crops for Ghana’s domestic markets and higher-value agricultural products with potential international demand, alongside opportunities in areas such as biofuels and agricultural waste utilisation.
THE ARTICLE 6 OPPORTUNITY
Alongside the underlying agricultural economics, projects that produce measurable and verifiable greenhouse gas emissions reductions may have the potential to generate mitigation outcomes capable of being authorised for international transfer under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
This creates the possibility of combining productive agricultural investment with climate finance — helping projects improve agricultural output and economics while delivering measurable environmental benefits.
GLOBAL ITMO
Following extensive work in Ghana with local partners, farmers and stakeholders, we are developing Global ITMO as the platform through which we intend to pursue these opportunities.
For 350 PPM and Carbon 350, it also represents a return to large-scale emissions reduction project development — building on experience gained through the development of hundreds of projects during the earlier international carbon markets.
