Floating photovoltaic systems, known as \u201cfloatovoltaics\u201d, also have the added benefits of reducing evaporation by shading the water, as well as preserving land for other uses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An international team of scientists calculated that 30 per cent coverage of global reservoirs could produce 9,434 terawatt hours (TWh) of power per year. This would meet more than twice the energy demand of the entire US annually.
