They are known as \u2018forever chemicals\u2019 because they don\u2019t break down in the environment. They have non-stick or stain repellent properties so can be found in household items like food packaging, electronics, cosmetics and cookware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But now researchers at the University of Stockholm have found them in rainwater in most locations on the planet &#8211; including&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/green\/tag\/antarctica\"><strong>Antarctica<\/strong><\/a>. There is no safe space to escape them. Safe guideline levels for some of these&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/next\/2022\/05\/13\/forever-chemicals-how-toxic-are-the-levels-of-pfas-found-in-french-tap-water-and-breast-mi\"><strong>forever chemicals<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;have dropped dramatically over the last two decades due to new insights into their toxicity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere has been an astounding decline in guideline values for PFAS in drinking water in the last 20 years,\u201d says Ian Cousins, lead author of the study and professor at the Department of Environmental Science, Stockholm University.
